Solar forms in North East Derbyshire - 18 April 2016

Neighbouring Councils have been granting planning permission for ground mounted solar panels on a number of sites across Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire last spring and some have already been completed. Could we be seeing more closer to home? So what's been the local reaction?

We start with the letters pages of The Mansfield  and Ashfield Chad where a local reader describes them as 'The economics of the madhouse' - only being built for the subsidies. This prompts a reply from an local solar farm owner who points out that multiple solar farms would lead to local energy security as well as benefitting the environment.

Not all farms are being run just for profit. Chesterfield Community Energy who are planning a solar array on a former coal stocking site at Oxcroft is a partnership that includes local community organisations and charities such as the RSPB. They are currently raising funds through a bond offer.  This happening closer to home through Sheffield Renewables - visit their website to find out more.
