Driving down your motoring costs - 13 Mar 2010
If you’re looking to save money and reduce your carbon footprint then assessing your travel needs is a great place to start. Driving smarter is easy and by following a few straight forward tips, you could save around £250 a year!
Transport emissions contribute over 20% of the UK’s overall carbon emissions and there are lots of things we can all do to reduce this figure. In fact, if all UK drivers reduced their driving by five miles a week, we could collectively save around 2.70 million tonnes of CO2 per year, enough to fill 16 million double decker buses! To help you on your way the Energy Saving Trust advice centre for South and West Yorkshire are hosting transport days on the 13th March at Sheffield Manor Lodge and on 27th March at Hillsborough Sports Arena.
Regular car uses are being encouraged to come down and take advantage of our free smarter driving lessons that last 50 minutes and could save you around 2 month’s worth of fuel every year. The Energy Saving Trust even has free membership to City Car Club* to give away and, depending on your transport needs and subject to availability, free public transport tickets*.
And for those of you do not have the option of leaving the car at home, we can help you with recession-busting driving tips and training that will cut the amount of fuel you burn, reduce wear and tear on car components and give you more miles for your money.
These free events will run from 10.30am – 3.30pm. To find out more about these offers and to see how you could save a packet call Liz Henry 01484 351778 or email Elizabeth.henry@est-swy.org.uk
